From manchester airport to york – what is the easiest and cheapest way?

nyu asked:

What’s the most convenient way to get to York on a tight budget? We’ll be after a long-haul flight so changing buses or trains would be just too much, but 35 pounds for a train ticket seems a little dear! Anyone with a brilliant idea?

Unless you can cadge a lift or want to hitch hike, it’s either the train or National Express…
You have to remember that England, as well as the rest of the UK, is now a very expensive place to be…so bring a lot of dosh with you!

National Express will be cheaper but only one direct coach a day. Train will be direct and quick as you are arriving long haul, if you are not from the UK you might be able to find special offers. Check out National Express at
    And National Rail Enquiries at

The train is definitely the easiest, you can get one direct from Manchester Airport – takes just under 2 hours.
Unfortunately public transport is neither very good nor very cheap in this country.
You will find the trains a lot cheaper if you book in advance and DO NOT travel at peak times.
    Have a good trip.
