from Brussel to Liege?

i want to take a train from Brussel to Liege on January 22nd 2009.
i tried to see the tickets online but appearantly they have a 31 days policy for the ticket purchase which will make me wait until december 21 2008.
anyway, the question is:
- what is the official site to book a Belgium train ticket?
- is the station in Brussel far from the Eurostar station?
- how much time it takes to get to Liege?
- any travel tips are also appreciated.

The easiest way to get a ticket is from the machine at the station. (There’s always a long queue at the ticket office). There’s no discount for buying in advance. You can buy online from Last time I used them they were experimenting with e-tickets but I don’t know if they ever caught on.
If you are going by Eurostar to Brussels on the same day, your ticket is valid to any station in Belgium (try explaining that to a Flemish speaking ticket inspector!).
The Eurostar stops at Brussels Midi although it’s about a 15 minute walk from the Eurostar train to the main part of the station. Trains for Liege also stop at Brussels Central and Brussels Nord. Journey time from Midi is an hour.
If you’re walking anywhere from Liege Guillemins station, cross the road and take the escalator up the dirty great hill the city is built around. Then wherever you want to go is downhill.
No, it’s not far.
About an hour and a half to two hours.

The Brussels Central Station is not very close to the Eurostar Station (Gare du Midi/Zuidstation) but they are well connected by metro. The train journey from Brussels to Liege takes about 1 hour. As far as I remember it is a fairly scenic trip. If you have trouble buying the ticket over the Internet you can always buy it at the Brussels Central Station right before you board the train. This is what I did when I made this trip and I had no problems.

Most tickets sold for Eurostar to Brussels are inclusive an onward travel to any station in Belgium on the same day. (It will tell so on your ticket.)
According to the Belgium rail planner you will travel about 50 minutes.
In Brussels you will have to walk from one part of the Brussels Midi (or Zuid) station to an other part, so you will not have to take the metro, but they still allow you 18 minutes for the walk, so it will be longish.
The Belgian railways do normally not give discount for early buying of tickets, so on the same day the tickets will be the same price.
So it is safe not to buy early and just see what is written on your Eurostar ticket.
The main reason you can not get information about the train time in January is likely that the new timetables start sometime in December, (likely the 14th as that is the date in several other European countries.)
After that date you will be able to get all info you need.
