Tips to travel with baby?

boud asked:

On the 20th this month, we’re going to Paris to see my family. We’ll be traveling by trains instead of flying and I start to be very anxious about it.
We’ll take a first train from Glasgow to London early in the morning. Then an afternoon Eurostar down to Paris. Estimated time of traveling and commute : 9 hours!

My baba is 9 months old, very easy going and good natured but I fear the worst of tantrums that day , either from him or…me!

Do you have any tips for long trips with babies? I panic just thinking about luggage/bottles/food/entertainment/nap times.
Any do’s and don’t's?

    1. buy some children’s ear phones and put on some soothing music while on a plane or a train or even a car.
2.make sure they are in a safe place and not about to fall out of the window in the car.
3.bring a lot of blankets so your baby won’t get cold.

bring plenty to entertain and go with the flow. Naps will be all over the place as will feeding. Just let her tell you what she needs and you will both feel better for it. Also, don’t worry about the other passengers, that is most moms biggest mistake is offending other passengers, it is called public transportation for a reason, it is public! If he takes a pacifier make sure to bring several, comfort objects are a must and since he is 9 months start pointing out objects outside (while there are some outside) and take walks when you can, a change of scenery does wonders!

Try and stick to some sort of a routine, mainly with sleeping and eating, the rest just take it how it comes. Take lots of little books and toys. If you can afford it, buy some new books or toys so the novelty factor is strong!

Pack loads of snacks, my little ones love raisins, little baby biscuits, carrot sticks (from an air tight container to stop them drying out), dried fruit etc.

As for clothes, just take the usual amount, or if anything limit what you can to make you life easier as you’ll have to carry it.

Have you thought about a sling for your baby? That’ll leave your hands free for luggage and bags. My kids LOVE being in the sling!

Have a safe trip and hope you have a nice time :o )

I second what someone said about the sling, then you can be hands free and baba feels like he is being held rather than wheeled around. I have a great pouch one where they sit on your hip. I’ll be travelling 26 hours to NZ with my 10 month old baby girl (on my own eek!) to see family in Feb. Have done this journey a number of times with my son, when he was 8 months, 2 and 3. Buy a couple of small new toys that you bring out on the day of travel so it’s something he wont have seen before, but most of all if you try to stay relaxed then he will pick up on that and be calm too :)

And totally don’t worry about any other travellers, lets face it they were all babies at some stage and many will go on to be in the same position as you at some stage so just keep your head up and don’t let them get to you!

Try to stay with his usual nap/feeding times will help too.
