How long should I stay in Perth, Australia?

nickyfredandcopperandprincetoo!! asked:

I’m planning to spend a year travelling in Australia and Europe. My plan is to get a Working Holiday Visa in Australia, and be there for about six months, maybe a little more. Perth sounds like a wonderful place, how long do you think I should stay there? Is three months a good amount of time? (I will also be working – hopefully!) Or do you think Adelaide is a better place to spend three months? I was thinking of working in Perth for three months, working in Sydney for three months, and then spending one month travelling around Australia, does that seem reasonable?
Thank you so much for your time!

Why do people ask strangers on the internet what they should do with THEIR life? go to Perth, so how you like it and then YOU decide how long you want to stay there.

Perth is great and yu will need 3 months to see everything on offer. Adelaide is nice, but I much prefer Perth.
Sydney is ‘interesting’ but did not like it that much, far to dirty a city. Blue mountains and the coast line north and south of Sydney are really nice.
A month to go travelling is not enough unless you afford to Charter a plane!
Suggest you spend the month in Darwin which is very different to the rest of Aus, great nightlife and loads to see.

I would spend as little time as possible in Perth. It is the most isolated city in the world, and you can tell. The people are very different to other Aussies, and not in a good way. Head to the East Coast instead

Alira, how very rude of you to say that about us here in Perth – how many Perth people do you know anyway?

    But I digress,

Perth is a great place, as are a lot of other areas in WA – if you want to see some of the country, I would skip the capitals all together and head for the country. About 3 and a half hours South of Perth is the Margaret River wine region. There is always work down there – mainly in the hospitality industry – and it is also a great place to visit. It has great beaches, the aforementioned wine area as well as breweries, chocolate factories and loads of other things. There are also magical places in the North of W, but it depends on the time of the year you will be there as sometimes it is not very pleasant weather wise.

I have not been to Adelaide so i can’t compare the two.

i lived in Sydney a few years ago and I loved it! The city its se;f is so alive – whatever time you go out, it is always busy. Then there are the blue mountains and the southern and northern coastal regions which are truly beautiful also.

As for how long to stay? Well, about 10 years should have it all covered! if i were you, I would figure out what you really want to see and then go to a couple of spots and do them really well. Each state has it’s own attractions and you could well be here forever trying to see everything. If you let us kow whether you are a hot weather person, or you love/hate the beach we can give probably narrow down your area of travel. All in all, you will love it (yes -even isolated little Perth and its weird inhabitants…) wherever you go!!

Perth is a great city ive lived here most of my life, i have also lived in Sydney, Brisbane is a nice place also. the best thing you can do is come to Perth stay your 3 months, go in to the visitor centre in at Forrest Place in the city and get some brochures on down south you could go weekends down there to look at W. A
then find out about the other cities in Australia the same way or at a travel shop

I’d stay a minimum of 40 years in Perth, wonderful place to have your kids and live

Good choice! Perth is absolutely beautiful!

A sun-baked city that can go weeks or even months without substantial rainfall, one of Perth’s main attractions lies in the pristine quality of its beaches. Unbroken stretches of white beaches run the entire length of the city’s coastal suburbs.

Perth, one of the most isolated cities in the world, has all modern conveniences and is a stunning place for a summer holiday. With the sun always shining, white sandy beaches and a cosmopolitan atmosphere there is always something to see and do. The capital, Perth, is not only one of the most beautiful cities in the country, but also one of the friendliest.

For travelers arriving in Sydney or elsewhere on the east coast, WA may seem a long way off (close to 4000km), but the West is one of Australia’s most appealing regions and is well worth the airfare, the drive or the long bus ride.

Sounds like a great plan, go for it!
