Car ferry from England to Ireland (North and South)?
Laura M asked:
Does anyone have any tips about taking a car ferry for a month’s stay to Ireland? Travel tips, favourite ferry companies, how to get a good price on a ticket etc?

Hollyhead to Dublin would usually be my first choice, even though I’m from the north. The crossing is usually shorter and there seems to be more fun in the bar. I don’t really like sea travel. Have a great time and don’t forget, never mention Cromwell in an English accent.
Travelling in the middle of the night is cheaper, as is the shortest crossing (Stranraer to Belfast). The prices are still extortionate when compared to RyanAir or EasyJet. You might seriously want to look at flying and hiring a car…
i would go from Holyhead! It is easier! I have tried sailing from Liverpool, 1 word NIGHTMARE! Yeah Holyhead to Dublin. I personally get a early morning sail, so i do all the driving late at night (less traffic). I go back to Ireland a few times a year and this is what i do!

You can to Northern Ireland with Norse Merchant Liverpool to Belfast or Fleetwood to Larne with Stena Line.
You can also Holyhead (Wales) to Dublin or Stranraer/Cairnryan (Scotland) to either Belfast or Larne
We normally travel from Holyhead to Dublin on the Irish Ferries Jonathon/Dublin Swift.
Takes 1hr 49, its a good boat, I’d reccomend getting there early because they now have a Club Class lounge, therefore theres not tonnes of space on the bottom deck, so get there early to avoid dissapointment!
(Tip: We use ClubCard vouchers from Tesco, get them into Irish Ferries ClubCard Deal Vouchers which make it 4 times the value of your original clubcard vouchers!)
Go from Wales – its closer!

The best place to go from is Hollyhead and if you can get on the Fast Catamaran it cuts your crossing time in half.
I second paddypower69.
